The FCT Police Command has launched an investigation into a confrontation involving personnel of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and commercial motorcyclists in the Life Camp area of Abuja on Thursday evening.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, on Thursday. According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 7pm when a VIO official attached to a Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) task force enforcing the ban on commercial motorcycles on major roads and routes in the FCT had an altercation with an Okada rider.

The disagreement later escalated into a confrontation, prompting the police to begin an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation to determine what led to the confrontation and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police said normalcy has since returned to the Life Camp area and urged residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear.

The FCT Police Command also advised residents to remain security-conscious and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.

The incident occurred amid enforcement of the FCTA’s restriction on commercial motorcycles operating on major roads and routes within the Federal Capital Territory. The police said it would provide further information as the investigation progresses.
