A 34-year-old man, Rabiu Mukthar, has allegedly opened fire at a wedding ceremony in Kano, killing one person and injuring three others.

The incident reportedly occurred after the suspect, who lives in Tudun Yola Quarters, became disturbed by loud music being played during the marriage ceremony.

The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect came out of his house and allegedly opened fire on people attending the ceremony.

According to him, Mukthar used a pump-action gun to fire sporadically at the gathering.

Kiyawa said the police immediately responded after receiving information about the incident and arrested Mukthar and another suspect.

He added that the weapon allegedly used in the attack was recovered from Mukthar.

Kiyawa also said the suspect reportedly told investigators that the organisers of the musical event did not consult him before holding it.

He allegedly told the police that the noise disturbed his sleep, prompting him to open fire at the gathering.

He further said the two suspects are currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kano State Police Command as the investigation continues.
