The Minister of Science and Technology and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State for the 2027 general election, Godfrey Uche Nnaji, is set to be arraigned before Justice Abdulmalik Joyce of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, July 13, 2026, over alleged corruption-related offences.
Sources familiar with the matter told SaharaReporters on Saturday that the arraignment will be conducted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) following months of investigation.
According to the insider, the anti-graft agency concluded its investigation after acting on a petition reportedly submitted by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre).
The source further confirmed that Nnaji was arrested at an airport after what investigators described as repeated efforts to evade arrest.
“The ICPC lead investigator has assured of a watertight case against the former minister,” the source said.
The planned arraignment follows the arrest of the immediate former minister by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ICPC.
The anti-graft agency had confirmed that Nnaji was arrested on July 1, 2026, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while arriving in Nigeria, following the execution of a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court.
In a statement signed by its Head of Media and Public Communications, J. Okor Odey, the ICPC said the arrest was carried out with the assistance of the Department of State Services (DSS), after which the former minister was handed over to the commission for further investigation.
According to the commission, it had earlier invited Nnaji for questioning through a letter dated May 15, 2026, which was served at his known addresses in Abuja and Enugu, as well as through his email address. However, the former minister allegedly failed to honour the invitations.
The ICPC said his failure to appear prompted it to obtain a bench warrant from the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The warrant was granted on June 11, 2026, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1160/2026, authorising the commission to arrest him as part of its investigation.
The commission disclosed that it is investigating Nnaji over allegations bordering on the forgery of academic and national service credentials, including an alleged forged degree certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and an alleged false National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate reportedly submitted during his ministerial screening in 2023.
Following his arrest, the ICPC said Nnaji was taken into custody at its headquarters in Abuja, where investigators continued work on the case, while assuring the public that the matter would be pursued in accordance with the law.
