Loyalists of Governor Dapo Abiodun and those of his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun have inaugurated parallel ward executive officers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.
This followed the directive of the national leadership of the APC that those elected at the recent ward congresses be inaugurated across the nation, in preparation for the local government congress scheduled for September 4.
DAILY POST reports that the two factions had held parallel congresses across the 236 wards of the State on July 31.
On Thursday, loyalists of Gov Abiodun gathered at the Mitros Hall, Ibara, Abeokuta to inaugurate their ward executive officers.
However, supporters of former Governor Amosun, on Friday, stormed the Senatorial office of the Ogun Central Senator at Leme, Abeokuta for the inauguration of their ward excos.
DAILY POST reports that none of the two factions made use of the State party Secretariat for the inauguration ceremony.
Our correspondent reports that Senator Tolu Odebiyi of Ogun West was present at the inauguration ceremony held by the Amosun group.
Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sarafa Ishola; House of Representatives member, Kola Lawal; Ogun APC former Chairman, Derin Adebiyi and others APC leaders were with the Amosun-backed ward executive officers for their inauguration.
As at the time of filing this report, DAILY POST notes that none of the two groups have produced the list of elected officers ratified by the APC national body.
But, former APC Chairman, Adebiyi said, “We have submitted our results and they have approved it. We (the Amosun group) are authentic.”
Also, Hon. Kola Lawal told hundreds of Amosun loyalists at the gathering not to be misled.
“We are the ones in Abuja. We know what is happening over there. Don’t allow anybody to mislead you,” Lawal said.
Meanwhile, the two factions have told their members to prepare for tomorrow’s local government congress.
