Governor of Kwara State AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq held an emergency security council meeting on Monday night with the heads of security agencies following a deadly terrorist attack in Kaiama Local Government Area, which reportedly claimed about 175 lives.
The meeting, which took place at Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin, formed part of the state government’s immediate response to the incident, which has raised security concerns across the North-Central region.
The Governor stated that the session was called to assess the security situation and strengthen coordinated responses to emerging threats. “As part of our multi-layered response to the recent terrorist attack in Kaiama LGA, I summoned an emergency security council meeting at the Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin today,” he said.
The Governor said that briefings were received from all security commanders in the state, and strategies were discussed to neutralize threats and protect lives and property. He expressed optimism that the outcomes of the meeting would improve security and restore calm in affected communities.
The emergency session coincided with intensified security operations in parts of Kwara, as military and police personnel were deployed to forest corridors believed to be used by armed groups. Officials noted that the consultations were aimed at enhancing intelligence sharing, inter-agency collaboration, and rapid response mechanisms, particularly in vulnerable rural areas.
Earlier on Sunday, Governors AbdulRazaq, Usman Ododo of Kogi State, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State visited victims of a recent attack on Woro community in Kaiama LGA. The victims are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Ilorin.
During the visit, Governor Oyebanji described the incident as unfortunate and expressed solidarity with the Kwara State Government and residents. “We stand in solidarity with the people of Kwara State over this unfortunate incident. We also commend the Federal Government and security agencies for the swift response so far. The victims are stable but remain under close watch in the intensive care unit,” he said.
He further stated that the three states would continue to collaborate to tackle cross-border criminal activities threatening communities in the region
