Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has highlighted the significant increase in federal allocations to state governments under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that current governors now receive substantially higher funding compared to previous years.
According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, Akpabio made the remarks during plenary on Thursday, where he observed that governors presently collect nearly four times the allocations that were available when he served as governor of Akwa Ibom State. He stated that the surge in resources provides state leaders with greater financial capacity to execute developmental projects and extend meaningful impact to grassroots communities.
Reflecting on his time in office, the former governor acknowledged that the expanded revenue profile offers today’s governors broader opportunities to accelerate infrastructure, social services, and economic growth initiatives across their states. He expressed optimism that the increased funds would be managed prudently and deployed effectively to improve the welfare of citizens.
Akpabio further voiced hope that state executives would be granted the wisdom and ability to maximize the enhanced allocations while fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities. He remarked that with the present level of funding, governors are better positioned to drive development and deliver democratic dividends than was possible during his tenure
