The lawmaker representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mrs Regina Akume, has urged her husband, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to fully return to Christianity.
Mrs Akume reminded the SGF that his life achievements were rooted in his Christian faith.
She made the appeal in a viral video recorded during the wedding reception of the SGF’s son on Sunday in Makurdi, Benue State.
In a birthday prayer for her husband who also turned 72 at the weekend, the federal lawmaker asked God to grant him long life, sound health and wisdom, while reminding him of his Christian foundation.
“I pray that the Lord will increase his years, grant him good health of mind and body, and give him clarity in thinking and doing things rightly,” she said.
She further emphasised that Christianity played a central role in her husband’s rise to prominence, cautioning against abandoning the faith.
“He should remember that he is a Christian, and it is Christianity that brought him this far. To abandon Christianity now and pursue anything else, he will not be successful,” Mrs Akume stated.
Advising him directly, she added, “So my advice to him is to come back to Christianity and follow the line of Christ. We came all the way to the office of the SGF not through any other means but through Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is still alive and still working, doing things for us.”
Her remarks have continued to generate widespread reactions on social and conventional media amid reports of Senator Akume’s recent marriage to another wife.
LEADERSHIP had reported that the SGF officially tied the knot with Queen Zaynab Ngohemba, a former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
The marriage was confirmed on Friday through a celebratory Facebook post by Abraham Double-D Dajoh, a member of the Dajoh family.
In the post, the Dajoh family described the union as “beautiful” and “uncommon,” formally welcoming Queen Zaynab into their family in Mbakor, Benue State.
“We, the entire Dajoh Family, happily join our daddy, uncle and brother, His Excellency, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume Jugu Dajoh, in welcoming his new and uncommon wife, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, into the Dajoh family,” the statement read.
