WHY TINUBU 4+4?
Foreign Reserves Edition
Nigeria’s gross foreign reserves have now risen to $54.13 billion, their second-highest level on record compared to the peaks of every year since 1999.
Only September 2008 was higher, when reserves peaked at $62.08 billion, just as the global financial crisis was unfolding.
For context, here is Nigeria’s 10 highest reserve peaks since 1999:
2008 — $62.08 billion
2026 — $54.13 billion
2009 — $53.25 billion
2007 — $51.33 billion
2013 — $48.86 billion
2018 — $47.87 billion
2025 — $45.71 billion
2019 — $45.18 billion
2012 — $44.18 billion
2014 — $43.61 billion
Under President Bola Tinubu, Nigeria today holds more in foreign reserves than at any point since the 2008 global financial crisis.
From $32.29 billion in May 2023 to $54.13 billion today. That is an increase of $21.84 billion, or nearly 68%.
The significance is in the history. Even though the reforms have been difficult, the numbers are beginning to tell their own story. We are on the way to prosperity.
