The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and several other filling stations have raised the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, pushing the cost of petrol to as high as ₦960 per litre in Abuja. According to Ireporter Online, a survey of outlets across the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday revealed that NNPCL adjusted its prices upward from ₦875 per litre on Monday to ₦960 per litre, marking an ₦85 increase per litre.
The new prices are already in effect at NNPCL stations along Kubwa Expressway, Gwarimpa, Wuse Zone 6, Zone 4, and other areas of the city. Motorists were seen expressing frustration over the hike, noting its immediate impact on transportation fares and the cost of everyday goods.
Other filling stations, including Empire and Ranoil Sharon, have also increased their pump prices, selling petrol between ₦960 and ₦980 per litre as of Tuesday. Meanwhile, some outlets, such as an MRS station along Kubwa Expressway, had yet to begin dispensing fuel, though a manager speaking on condition of anonymity confirmed that a price review was imminent.
The adjustments follow a recent increase in the gantry price by Dangote Refinery on Monday, which raised petrol prices to ₦874 per litre. Industry stakeholders, including the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, had earlier warned that the hike would soon reflect at retail stations nationwide.
