Maryam Abacha

Maryam Abacha was born in Kaduna, Nigeria, on March 4, 1947.

Sani Abacha, Nigeria’s military ruler from 1993 to 1998, was married to Maryam Abacha.

Maryam served as Nigeria’s First Lady from November 17, 1993 to June 8, 1998. She has a total of ten children.

The following are their names: Late Ibrahim Abacha, Mohammed, Abacha Abba Sani Abacha, Mahmud Sani Abacha, Sadiq Abacha, Zainab Abacha, Fatima Gumsu Sani Abacha, Rakiya Abacha, Abdullahi Abacha, Mustapha Abacha.

Following the assassination of Sani Abacha, Maryam claimed that her husband behaved in the best interests of Nigeria, which a Nigerian government official stated that Maryam Abacha named in order to persuade the government to grant her a reprieve.

Sani Abacha imprisoned Olusegun Obasanjo, and Olusegun Obasanjo later became President of Nigeria in 1999.

The Maryam Abacha American University bears her name. Maradi, Niger Republic is the location of the institution.
