The now viral voice of 70-yr old Salma Mohammed woke me up around 3:00am this morning. From three different people, who had listened and couldn’t sleep, they wanted me to act on it.
Kano is in trouble. Nigeria is in trouble. Readers will recall our stories this week about Kano. First was that members of the COVID- 19 Committee set up by Ganduje tested positive. Before then, we raised an alarm about deaths in the city. Later on, we did a story on how the Index Coronavirus case in the State, a former Ambassador went to different mosques to pray.
Abujareporters gathered that 17- man team was posted to Kano by NCDC but as at today, it is likely they have not even taken off from their bases talk less of getting to Kano.
Hajiya Salma in her voice note sent out revealed the lies that NCDC has been telling many- we are coming, don’t worry, we will take care of you, we have you covered.
They lied to her that they were sending help to ensure that her son in-law who exhibited symptoms of Coronavirus get help. They never sent help. She didn’t know they were lying until it was too late.
Now her grandchildren and daughter are stuck in Kano and they need to be tested. Who will test them? Meanwhile, they cannot leave Kano as the city, like many others is on lockdown. The calamity in Kano is that not yet unraveled. We could hear her because she had access. How many homes and families have access? How many people have died in the last couple of days like her son in-law?
Until the Nigerian government is forced to declare a clear cut plan for combating Coronavirus, we are facing the worst battle of our lives.
This is not a normal abujareporters story.
It is for you and I to reflect, Nigerian government is at crossroads and wits end.
