Despite concerted efforts by the federal and state governments to combating banditry, armed bandits numbering over 50 have attacked villages in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State leaving a mobile policeman dead and five others, including three military officers, wounded.
The men of the underworld attacked Galkogo and Zumba villages in Shiroro LGA of the state, reportedly killing one mobile police officer and shooting three military men among others.
Confirming the attack on Sunday evening, the Police Public Relations Officer in Niger State, Wasiu Abiodun, said the casualties are yet to be ascertained as information about the attacks are still sketchy.
Our Correspondent learnt that the attacks, which started in the early hours of Sunday, lasted several hours as the bandits, who were on more than 50 motorcycles, unleashed terror on the villages shooting sporadically in the air.
One of the villages and an eyewitness told our Correspondent that: “A Mobile Police Officer was killed during the attacks, and five persons including a little girl, three military men and another civilian sustained gun shot injuries.”
He said the injured had been rushed to the General Hospital in Minna for urgent medical attention.
Findings have it that, a woman was shot in her stomach, and the little girl was shot in her hand and leg.
