A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in South East, Osita Okechukwu, has spoken on the purported suspension and calls by stakeholders, for the resignation of Comrade Adams Oshimohole as the national chairman of the APC.

Okechukwu while speaking on the Platform a radio programme in Abia state berated the APC national chairman and claimed that Oshimohole-led leadership paved ways for massive manipulations of the 2018 APC primaries that led to the fortunes of the party dwindleing in the South East zone during the 2019 general elections.

DAILY POST recalls that some aggrieved members of the party had dragged Oshiomhole to court in a move to get him removed as National Chairman.

Following the suit filed at a Federal Capital Territory, High Court, Justice Danladi Senchi had ordered Oshiomhole to stop parading himself as National Chairman of the party pending the determination of the matter.

However, a Federal High Court in Kano State had on Thursday vacated the order of the court.

But Osita explained that, “Without being immodest or without deprecating myself, I won the 2018 primaries of the Senate of Enugu west Senatorial district and I was rigged out. There is no doubts that the manipulations of the primaries of the 2019 general elections in the APC affected the overall results of APC not only in the South east zone. It was manipulated and mangled by Comrade Adams Oshimohole.

“You can imagine, he made an advertorial telling each states to choose between direct or indirect primaries, consensus as well, as it embbeded in the Constitution of our party. We in Enugu state, we said we do not have the capacity to manage direct primaries. Because, in direct primaries, you must have authentic register of members, you must have authentic cards of members and you must also have electoral management system that is near excellent, unless you want to truncate the process. So, we elected through indirect primaries. Overnight, Comrade Oshiomhole reversed it when we had already started the election of governorship candidate at University of Nigeria, Enugu campus. I was one of those he consulted. And I said sir, out of the 17 local government areas in Enugu state we had already concluded four, please allow the process to go ahead. The Director of DSS was in the venue and Commissioner of Police. The next day in the morning, what we heard was that we must go for direct primaries.

“He contributed greatly to the current crisis in the party. He did so and nobody will exonerate him from that. There are two characteristics of leaders. There are leaders that pay attention to advices and there are those who do not. In our Igbo parlance, they will say “Eze onye agwalam”. The king that says nobody should tell me, I know everything. Oshimohole belonged to cadre of kings and it affected our fortunes”.

Continued, Okechukwu opined, “If my result was announced even if I did not win, APC could have had 25 percent in Enugu state. And I could have defeated Ike Ekweremadu, because, we are two old divisions, the Udi division and Okwo division. And the whole Udi division saw that somebody who stayed sixteen years in the parliament, he should give others a chance. There are good people of conscience. Ekweremadu’s Okwo division gave me their endorsement. I am not trying to talk about myself, i’m trying to say actually, between God and man. Could you imagine in the five states of the South east, Edo person was the chairman of Enugu, was the chairman of Ebonyi, was the chairman of Abia and the same thing in Imo. I do not know how many of states in the South East that had a chairman in any of the panel in the whole country”.

The APC chieftain therefore added, “If I were the chairman, I could have had three sets of panel per each state instead of one. We could have had a panel for State Assemblies, Senate, federal House. I could have set different panel for governorship and different panel for presidential. The matter is not about 2023. Many have lost confidence on his managerial capacity as APC national chairman”.
