From Oseheye Okwuofu, Ibadan

Hostility heightened in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Wednesday, as the Executive Chairman of Afijio Local Government, Mr. Samuel Aderemi, was kidnapped by suspected thugs, who stormed the council secretariat in an attempt to prevent the sacked local government chairmen and councillors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from resuming in their offices.

Aderemi, after being beaten into a stupor by the hoodlums, was taken away in a bus to an unknown destination, but was later rescued after two hours by security agents.

The victim, according to the sacked Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Chairman, Abass Aleshinloye, is recuperating in an undisclosed hospital.

Similar scenarios also played out in Ibadan North, Ibadan North East Local Government and Omi Apata Local Council Development Area(LCDA), where thugs had a field day, causing mayhem. Security agents comprising the police and civil defence were on ground to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

Members of the APC and PDP, who engaged in a free for all, were injured.
